The UR Connection
It seems the Science Department at the University of Richmond has “adopted” the student body of SBCS. Dr. Paula Lessem and her Biology 101 students have had several opportunities to work with the students at SBCS both on-site and in the university's science lab. Nick Mider, a reporter for The Collegian, did a wonderful article for the university newspaper praising the efforts and outreach of the UR students and faculty. Initiated in the Fall of 2008, Dr. Lessem and her students were on site twice a month conducting experiments with our students. This was an opportunity for SBCS students to see with their eyes and touch with their hands all that they were learning in their science classes. Becuase of the great success of the program, it has now become a permanent part of the school's science curriculum. |

ATTENTION JV BASKETBALL COACHES!!
Registration for the 4th Annual Cumbo Classic JV Basketball Tournament is officially underway.
This tournament was organized to give junior varsity players an opportunity to compete in a forum designed just for the developing student athlete.
In loving memory of Dwayne Allen Cumbo (6/10/82 - 12/12/05), the very first graduate of Southside Baptist Christian School, the goal of the Cumbo Classic is to remind young people that “good success” comes from making the right choices according to the Word of God. Call the school office for registration information.

International/Inner-City Student Program
Headed into its third year, the International/Inner-City Student Program at Southside Baptist Christian School is providing academic, fine arts, and athletic opportunities to students from Richmond's innercity as well as Europe and the Caribbean. The IISP staff screens each potential candidate for this program, looking for those that have demonstrated a commitment to academic success as well as those with a desire to attend college.
The screening and interview process is governed in part in accordance with guidelines established by the US Department of Homeland Security. Parents desiring to send their children to the United States to study must make that request via our website. The entire process can take between 2-5 weeks depending on the country's embassy. Of course, prospective students coming to the program from the inner-city have a slightly different enrollment process.
If you would like to know more about our IISP or make a commitment to support it financially, please contact the school office. |
