Graduation from SBCS
Graduation from Southside Baptist Christian School is a privilege and not an entitlement. Graduates from SBCS receive a diploma signifying completion of a rigorous academic agenda that is integrated with Christian principles. The counselor's office is charged with helping students select the proper courses to fulfill their academic requirements for graduation. Southside Baptist Christian School's minimum requirements for high school graduation fulfill the standards established by the Association of Christian Teachers and Schools.
Seniors who have not completed the required credits may participate in commencement exercises, but they will not receive their diplomas until all credits are met. Additionally, any outstanding balance owed to SBCS must be paid in full before a diploma or transcript will be released. The required credits are divided into different subject areas. Students are required to take specific classes and/or a specific number of credits from each subject area. All SBCS graduation requirements meet or exceed credits required by the Commonwealth of Virginia. However, certain SBCS diploma track requirements may not meet entrance requirements for certain colleges.
Commencement is a formal ceremony that allows SBCS to recognize those students who have completed all academic and eligibility requirements. During commencement, specific students may be recognized for their academic achievements.
Academic honors are granted to those seniors who have completed at least six terms (three years) of academic work at SBCS and/or have satisfactorily completed the requirements for the Honors Diploma. Special skills/transition training can be made available to those students working on the Vocational Diploma or Certificate of Completion. All credits received prior to enrolling at SBCS are averaged with SBCS's credits for the student's GPA.
Diploma Tracks
At SBCS, we understand that students perform at different levels academically. It is for that reason that SBCS offers 4 distinct courses of study for students entering 9th grade. Each is designed to meet the individual needs and goals of each student.
